How do I do a Self-Exam?
It is important to do a breast self-exam at least once a month as 70% of breast cancers are found through self examination.
Step 1
Look at your breasts in a mirror with your shoulders straight and arms to the side. Look for changes in shape, color, and texture. (redness, dimpling, inverted nipple)
Step 2
Raise your arms and look for the same changes.
Step 3
Look for any signs of fluid coming from nipples.
Step 4
Lay down and feel each breast using the opposite hand. (right hand to examine left breast) Use a firm smooth touch keeping fingers together using a circular motion. Cover the entire breast top to bottom, side to side, and under the armpits.
Step 5
Feel your breasts standing or sitting using the same method as step 4.
